It is used in adults in the following indications:
Treatment of duodenal and gastric ulcers
Treatment of inflammation of your gullet (reflux esophagitis)
To prevent your esophagus from getting infected.
Treatment of heartburn and acid regurgitation
Treatment of infections caused by the bacterium Helicobacter pylori in combination with antibiotic therapy
Treatment or prevention of duodenal or stomach ulcer in patients who need long-term NSAID therapy (NSAIDs are used to treat pain and inflammation)
Treatment of Zollinger-Ellison Syndrome.
Your doctor may have prescribed the medicine for a different indication or a dose different from that given in this leaflet. Please take this medicine as directed by your doctor.
If after 14 days you don’t feel better, or even worse, you need to see a doctor.
Contraindication
The medicine must not be taken
if you are allergic to lansoprazole or any of the other ingredients of this medicine.
Always take this medicine exactly as your doctor or pharmacist has told you. Check with your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure.
The dosage will depend on your condition. The usual dose for adults is given below.
Sometimes your doctor will prescribe a different dose and inform you of the duration of treatment.
Treatment of heartburn and acid regurgitation:
one 15 mg or 30 mg capsule daily for 4 weeks.
If your symptoms persist, speak to your doctor.
If your symptoms have not improved within 4 weeks, contact your doctor.
Treatment of duodenal ulcer:
one 30 mg capsule daily for 2 weeks.
Treatment of gastric ulcer:
one 30 mg capsule daily for 4 weeks.
Treatment of inflammation of the esophagus:
one 30 mg capsule daily for 4 weeks.
For long-term prevention of inflammation of the esophagus:
one 15 mg capsule daily.
Your doctor may adjust the dose to one 30 mg capsule daily.
Treatment of Helicobacter pylori infection:
The usual dose is one 30 mg capsule in combination with two different antibiotics in the morning and one 30 mg capsule in combination with two different antibiotics in the evening.
Usually this treatment is carried out daily for 7 days.
The recommended antibiotic combinations are:
30 mg of the active ingredient of the drug together with 250-500 mg of clarithromycin and 1000 mg of amoxicillin
30 mg of the active ingredient of the drug together with 250 mg of clarithromycin and 400-500 mg of metronidazole
If you are being treated for an ulcer due to an infection, it is unlikely that your ulcer will recur if the infection is treated successfully. In order for your medicine to work its best, take it at the prescribed time and do not miss a dose.
Treatment of duodenal and gastric ulcers in patients who need long-term therapy with NSAIDs:
one 30 mg capsule daily for 4 weeks.
For the prevention of duodenal and stomach ulcers in patients who need long-term therapy with NSAIDs:
one 15 mg capsule daily.
Your doctor may adjust the dose to one 30 mg capsule daily.
Zollinger-Ellison Syndrome:
The usual starting dose is two 30 mg capsules a day. Depending on how you respond to the preparation, your doctor will then decide which dose is optimal for you.
Use in children and adolescents:
The medicine should not be used in children and adolescents.
If you take more than you should
If you take more than you should, seek medical advice as soon as possible.
If you forget to take a dose
If you forget to take the previous dose, take it as soon as you remember, unless the next dose is about to take place. If so, skip the missed dose and continue taking it as normal.
Do not take a double dose to make up for a forgotten dose.
If you stop taking it
Do not stop treatment prematurely, even if your symptoms have improved. Your condition may not be completely cured and may come back if you do not complete treatment.
