Indication
The medicine is an oral iron preparation against iron deficiency.
The medicine is used for iron deficiency, especially iron deficiency anemia, during pregnancy and breastfeeding; in childhood; with a low-iron diet, after chronic and acute blood loss.
Contraindication
The medicine must not be taken
if you are allergic to iron or any of the other ingredients of this medicine.
if you have a narrowing of the esophagus.
if you suffer from a hereditary iron storage disease (hemochromatosis).
if you suffer from iron overload (chronic hemolysis, thalassemia, other hemoglobinopathies).
if you suffer from iron utilization disorders (e.g. sideroachrestic anemia, lead anemia).
if you receive repeated or chronic blood transfusions.
of children under 6 years.
of children aged 6 years and older with a body weight of less than 20 kg.
Dosage
Always take this medicine exactly as described or as directed by your doctor or pharmacist. Check with your doctor or pharmacist if you are unsure.
For all ages, weight classes, and dosage groups, the dosage should be adjusted according to the patient’s needs and the response of clinical variables (e.g., hemoglobin, ferritin, transferrin) should be monitored by your physician.
A daily dose of 5 mg Fe 2+ /kg body weight should not be exceeded
Unless otherwise prescribed by your doctor, this is the usual dose
for adults and children aged 6 and over (with a body weight of at least 20 kg):
1 enteric-coated hard capsule daily.
If there is a pronounced iron deficiency in adults and adolescents aged 15 and over or with a body weight of 50 kg in the initial phase:
2 to 3 gastro-resistant hard capsules daily, to be taken throughout the day.
Use in elderly patients
There are no clinical data indicating the need for dosage adjustment in elderly patients.
Use in patients with kidney or liver dysfunction
There are no clinical data indicating the need for dosage adjustment in patients with renal or hepatic impairment.
The drug should be used with caution in patients with liver dysfunction and in patients suffering from alcoholism.
In patients with chronic kidney disease requiring erythropoietin, iron should be administered intravenously.
Use in children and adolescents
The medicine must not be used in children under 6 years of age (with a body weight of less than 20 kg).
Duration of application
The doctor determines the duration of use.
Replenishing the body’s iron stores usually takes between 3 to 6 months – depending on the severity of the anemia and individual circumstances.
Please talk to your doctor or pharmacist if you have the impression that the effect of the medicine is too strong or too weak.
If you have taken more than you should
If you have taken too much of the medicine, you should inform a doctor immediately.
In the event of an intentional or accidental overdose, the symptoms described in the “Side effects” category become more pronounced. If an overdose occurs with clinical signs of poisoning, contact a doctor immediately.
An overdose can cause poisoning, especially in children.
If you forget to take it
Do not take a double dose if you forget to take the previous dose.
If you accidentally forget to take the medication one or more times, this will extend the total duration of therapy.
If you stop taking it
If you stop taking the medicine, the success of the treatment is at risk.
