The medicine contains the active ingredient cyproterone acetate.
It is an antiandrogen. It inhibits the action of male sex hormones (androgens), which are also produced to a small extent by the female body. It also has a gestagenic and antigonadotropic effect.
In men, treatment with the drug reduces libido and potency, the function of the gonads is inhibited; these changes disappear again after discontinuation of use.
The drug protects androgen-dependent organs of success, such as: B. prostate, against androgens coming from the gonads and (or) the adrenal cortex.
It is used for
palliative treatment of patients with secondary tumors or locally advanced inoperable prostate cancer,
If treatment with LHRH analogues (substances that reduce the production of sex hormones in the testicles) or surgery are insufficient, therapy cannot be used (contraindicated) or therapy during which the drug can be taken (oral therapy), which is preferable.
at the beginning of treatment with LHRH agonists to prevent adverse effects and complications that may be caused by the initial increase in serum testosterone (male sex hormone) levels.
for the treatment of hot flashes that occur during treatment with LHRH agonists or after testicular removal.
The medicine cannot be taken
if you are allergic to cyproterone acetate or any of the other ingredients of this medicine.
for liver diseases,
with Dubin-Johnson syndrome and Rotor syndrome (hereditary disorders of liver function in which the excretion of the erythrocyte pigment bilirubin is impaired),
in case of previous or existing liver tumors (only if they are not caused by secondary tumors of prostate cancer).
with known or suspected malignant diseases (except advanced prostate cancer),
if you have been diagnosed with meningioma (usually a benign tumor of the meninges). Ask your doctor if you are unsure.
for severe chronic depression,
if you have thromboembolic events (events that affect circulation by forming a clot in the blood vessel),
